What the Aloha Spirit Means to Me

The Aloha Spirit is all about having a positive mental attitude.

What does the Aloha Spirit really stand for?

In my opinion, the people who live in Maui have this amazing interior spirit that’s so welcoming and loving. When it comes to the people who move here from the mainland, though, I’ve come to realize that there’s another way the Aloha Spirit evolves. It’s all about having a positive attitude. The people who move here do it because they can. The people who can’t end up staying on the mainland because they don’t have the positive mental attitude that says, “I can do this.”

I often say that I moved to Maui for the weather, but I stay for the people.

When people move here with a positive mental attitude that says, “I can do this,” they’re excited for everyone else who’s here—to meet people who’re just visiting and people who call this their home after living somewhere else for many years. I’ve come to realize that the Aloha Spirit here in Maui is a melting pot of people who’re filled with positive attitudes, love, and a willingness to share this island with everyone else. Next time you’re on Maui and thinking to yourself, “Wow, this is such a great place,” remember that it truly is. I often say that I moved to Maui for the weather, but I stay for the people.

If you have the Aloha Spirit and are thinking of moving to Maui, don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I’d love to be your resource and show you the same path that led me here. I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks and, of course, aloha!
