What to do When it Rains on Maui: Watch On YouTube

It’s raining? Looking for things to do? Don’t let the rain ruin your vacation! Stay tuned and find out what to do when it Rains on Maui.

There’s a lot of cool things to do on Maui. We do have 8 or 10 rainy days here, and it’s your lucky day that you found one of them. On Maui there’s a lot of fun things you can do on a rainy day:

Go to The Aquarium:

We have the Maui Ocean Center. Really cool, great place. You can spend a few hours walking through. A lot of it is indoors. So a lot of cool things to do at the aquarium.

Trampoline Park:

Maybe you’ve you got kids, even if you’re young at heart, there’s a trampoline park here on Maui, and it’s awesome. You go bounce around. It’s all indoors. Another great opportunity to find something to do on Maui in the rain.

Museums:

How about go to a museum? There’s a bunch of museums on the island of Maui you might not have known about. There’s the Alexander Baldwin Sugar Museum. You can go to the Hui, to the Visual Arts Center. There’s a museum and they often have gallery shows there. There’s the Maui Arts and Culture Center. They have a beautiful little gallery there as well. And very often they’ll have exhibits going on there.

The Wo Hing Temple, if you’re over in Lahaina, is another great place to stop in and check it out. And I apologize, I got to read this one. It’s the Hale Hoʻikeʻike at the Bailey House. It’s the Hawaiian museum. All of these museums are small, they’re not really huge, but again, it’s something to do when you’re sitting around thinking, “Oh, it’s raining and I can’t go to the beach.” So some great cultural opportunities in that.

Art Galleries:

Another thing that you can do is go to the art galleries. In Wailea, the shops at Wailea, there’s several art galleries and you can just bounce in and out or just go do some shopping at the art galleries at the shops at Wailea, it’s another option. Or you can go to Lahaina. There’s a whole row of art galleries, where they feature a lot of local artists and some really great artwork that you can have a chance to take a look at.

Shopping:

Also, when we’re talking about shopping, there’s three malls on Maui that would be great places to go and kill some time when it’s raining. The Queen Ka’ahumanu Center is over in Kahului. We’ve got the shops at Wailea, and then the Whalers Village over in Lahaina, Kaanapali area. And then also there’s Front Street, really not a shopping center, but there’s tons of shopping where you can go get your souvenir shopping all done.

Happy Hour:

Or if you’re not much into shopping and you’re not much into museums, you can always go to a happy hour. There’s lots of those on island. Just check out our video for the best happy hours in Maui. Or if you know that it’s going to be rainy tomorrow or the next day, you might want to go check with the hotels, the resorts, and take a class. There’s a lot of art classes, painting, dance classes. A lot of different activities they offer classes on might be something to do, might be a great family activity for you if it is a little bit of inclement weather.

Check the other side of the island:

Maui’s a funny place. Just because it’s raining on the south side or the west side, it doesn’t mean it’s raining on the other side of the island. So you might check the weather forecast, or you might just take a drive around and go for a ride around the island. You might find sun somewhere else.

Spa Day

Okay, so it’s raining everywhere. What do you do? You can also go to the spa. That’s all indoors. You can’t go wrong for a spa day. The resorts here on Maui have the most amazing spas.

Warning: Waterfalls can be Dangerous

One thing people might say, “Well, geez, it’s a great time to go to see waterfalls.” But I will tell you that if it’s raining, and it’s been raining a lot, waterfalls can be dangerous. So I would recommend wait until the rain stops before you go to the waterfalls, so you don’t get caught in a flash flood. Not to be a Debbie Downer, but we want you to be careful and safe out there.

Scuba Dive

Another thing you can do is, well, heck sign up to learn how to scuba dive. You’re going to be all wet anyway, you might as well be under the water. The rain won’t bother you.

Look at the Sky

Another thing you can do is look for rainbows! Or even moon bows at night. Plus a bonus- we typically have the most gorgeous sunsets right after a storm. So be sure to look around in the sky when its raining on Maui.

Jump in a Puddle

And lastly, my favorite thing that you can do when it’s a rainy day, is go jump in some mud puddles! Be a kid again. Enjoy Maui, it’s an amazing place. And it doesn’t rain very much here. If it is raining when you’re here, I am so sorry, but take advantage of some other things to do.
